Not only do these updates usually fix known issues and bugs, but they also contain code that’s been optimized to improve performance — which can in turn help extend your battery life.

Check your usage

If you want to improve your iPhone battery life, it’s important to understand how you’re using your phone. Check your usage in Settings > Battery. Here, you’ll see a list of apps and services that have used battery power over the last 24 hours or the last 7 days.

Tap Show Detailed Usage to see how much background activity each app has used. Background activity refers to things like checking for new email, refreshing apps in the background, and downloading updates. Some apps, such as news apps, can use a lot of battery power when they’re actively updating in the background. If you see an app that’s using more battery than you’d like, you can turn off Background App Refresh for that app.

Reduce screen brightness

A great tip to follow if you want to improve your battery health is to reduce the screen brightness of your iPhone. You can do this by going to Settings > Display & Brightness. Here, you will see a slider that you can use to lower the brightness of your screen.

If you live in a hot climate, make sure to keep your iPhone out of direct sunlight whenever possible, and don’t leave it in a hot car for long periods of time.
